What is Object Storage?

Object Storage is a data storage architecture that manages data as objects, rather than as files in a file system hierarchy or blocks in block storage. Each object includes the data itself, metadata, and a unique identifier. It's ideal for storing unstructured data like images, videos, backups, and logs.

Is Onidel Object Storage S3-compatible?

Yes, our Object Storage is fully compatible with the Amazon S3 API. You can use existing S3 tools, SDKs (like boto3, AWS SDK), and applications by simply changing the endpoint URL. No code changes are required.

How is data protected?

All objects are replicated across three separate storage nodes on different hardware for maximum durability. You can additionally enable versioning to protect against accidental deletions.

What are the storage limits?

The minimum storage allocation is 250 GB with annual payment, or 1 TB with monthly billing. A limit of 3,000,000 objects applies; increases are available upon request, subject to approval. Individual objects can be up to 5 TB using multipart uploads. You get 100 buckets included for free.

Is there a limit on the number of objects?

The object limit is 3,000,000. This can be increased upon request, subject to approval. Contact support@onidel.com to discuss a higher limit.

How does pricing work?

Storage is billed according to your allocated capacity and billing term, with a minimum of 250 GB for annual payment or 1 TB for monthly billing. View the pricing section for current rates in your currency. Ingress and API requests are free, and you receive 3x your storage allocation in free monthly egress. Additional egress is charged at the displayed rate. Up to 1,000 concurrent connections are supported.

Can I host a static website?

Yes, you can configure any bucket for static website hosting. Simply enable the website hosting option, set your index and error documents, and optionally configure a custom domain.

What regions are available?

Object Storage is currently available in our Singapore and Sydney data centers. We're working on expanding to additional regions. Data is stored with triple replication within the region for high durability.

How do I migrate from AWS S3?

Migration is straightforward using tools like rclone, aws-cli, or S3cmd. Simply configure the tool with your Onidel credentials and endpoint URL, then sync your data. We also provide migration guides in our documentation.
